the director of faculty development works with the faculty development board and the provost to implement and collaborate on programs and initiatives designed to support faculty in their professional development. programming varies from semester to semester.
the fall 2020 semester will include two reading groups, held virtually. one group will be reading small teaching:online (2019) - a follow up from our selection last year small teaching: everyday lessons from the science of learning (2016) and that applies lessons in neuroscience to online learning. another reading group will be reading the latest publication from wittenberg professor of philosophy julius bailey. we will use discussion of his well-received book, racism, hypocrisy, and bad faith: a moral challenge to the america i love (2020), as a launching pad for identifying anti-racism measures we can take in our teaching, scholarship, and service.
also, watch for additional workshops on online learning and hybrid classrooms to follow up on our summer series of workshops on remote education. several wittenberg professors will be reflecting on how they approach online learning and providing helpful tips for improving its effectiveness. also, watch for regular updates on webinars offered by regular and national affiliates.
please contact dr. cynthia richards at firstname.lastname@example.org should you have questions and/or ideas for faculty development workshops and initiatives. wittenberg is committed to the development of strong teachers and active scholars.
